1 Year Thailand Student Visa 2025 Complete Guide for International Students

🎓 What Is a Thailand Education (ED) Visa?

The Non-Immigrant “ED” Visa, commonly known as the Student Visa, allows foreign students to stay in Thailand legally while studying at a recognized institution.
This visa is available for students enrolled in language schools, universities, or training programs approved by Thailand’s Ministry of Education (MOE).

The visa is usually granted for 90 days initially and can be extended inside Thailand up to one year, depending on your course duration and attendance.

🏫 Why Choose Thailand for Studying?

Thailand offers:

  • Affordable tuition fees

  • Modern education facilities

  • Beautiful environment and rich culture

  • Opportunity to live and study in Southeast Asia’s most popular destination

Many students choose to study Thai or English language programs while experiencing life in Thailand.

📋 Documents Required for a Student Visa

To apply for a Thai Education Visa, you will generally need:

  1. A valid passport (at least 6 months remaining)

  2. Completed visa application form

  3. Passport-size photos

  4. Admission letter from a registered school or university

  5. Ministry of Education (MOE) approval documents (provided by your school)

  6. Proof of tuition fee payment

  7. Bank statement (showing financial stability usually 20,000 - 30,000 THB)

  8. Police clearance certificate (sometimes required)

🧭 Step-by-Step Process to Apply

Step 1 Choose a Registered School

Select a language school or university that is officially recognized by the Thai Ministry of Education.
For example, several language schools in Bangkok, such as Sandee Language School,  ALA Language School, offer long-term Thai language programs that help students apply for an Education Visa.

(Note: Schools only provide admission documents  the visa itself is issued by the Thai Embassy or Immigration Department.)

Step 2 Get Admission & Documents

After enrolling, the school will give you:

  • An Acceptance Letter

  • MOE approval documents required for visa application

Step 3 Apply for the ED Visa

You can apply at:

  • The Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in your home country.

  • Or, if you’re already in Southeast Asia, at a nearby Thai Consulate.

Visa fee: ~2,000 THB (Single Entry)

Step 4 Enter Thailand

Once your visa is approved, you will receive 90 days of stay on arrival.

Step 5 Extend Your Visa in Thailand

Your school will help you extend your visa every 90 days at the local Immigration Office.
You must show proof of attendance and school documents each time.

⏰ Attendance and Rules

Thai Immigration requires that students attend at least 70–80% of classes.
If attendance is too low, your visa extension may be denied.

Some language schools offer classes only 2 days per week, while others may have more frequent schedules it depends on the school and course type.
Always confirm your class schedule when you apply.

💵 Tuition Fee and Living Cost

  • Language course fees: around 20,000–35,000 THB per year

  • Visa extension fees: ~1,900 THB every 90 days

  • Living cost: 10,000–20,000 THB/month depending on location and student (Bangkok or smaller cities)

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • ❌ Believing schools “give” the visa  they only support your application

  • ❌ Forgetting to renew every 90 days

  • ❌ Missing classes  immigration checks attendance

  • ❌ Overstaying your visa  heavy fines apply

🧩 Tips for Students

  • Keep copies of all school and visa documents

  • Always check your visa expiry date

  • Report your address every 90 days (Thai Immigration rule)

  • Be polite and patient during immigration visits

  • Learn basic Thai  it helps a lot in daily life

🌟 Final Thoughts

Studying in Thailand with a Non-Immigrant ED Visa is an amazing opportunity to learn, explore, and experience a new culture.

Just make sure you choose a legitimate school, attend your classes regularly, and follow all visa rules.

You’ll not only improve your language skills but also enjoy living in one of Asia’s most vibrant countries.
