Can Foreigners Get a Driving License in Thailand?

Yes, foreigners can legally get a Thai driving license in 2026.

You can apply if you’re in Thailand on:

  • Tourist Visa

  • Education (Student) Visa

  • Long-stay or Resident Visa

First-time applicants receive a 2-year temporary license.
After that, it can be upgraded to a 5-year license.

Documents You’ll Need

Most Department of Land Transport (DLT) offices will ask for:

  • Passport (original + photocopies)

  • Valid visa and latest entry stamp

  • Residence Certificate from Immigration

    Medical Certificate     from a clinic or hospital
